Marin County Addressing E-Bike Safety Concerns

An uptick in electric bicycle accidents involving school-age children has led to the introduction of an online dashboard to track e-bike related accidents and guide local safety policy. “E-bikes are a great way to get around and help kids build independence,” says Mary Sackett, Marin County supervisor. “We want riders to wear a helmet, not to carry passengers, and if you’re buying an e-bike, go with a Class 1 [equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling] e-bike.”
