50 Year Anniversary of the Tequila Sunrise

Fifty-one years ago this month, Mick Jagger wanted a margarita. He was at a private party in Sausalito in between two Rolling Stones shows at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. At that private party Trident bartender Bobby Lozoff talked him into a Tequila Sunrise instead, and the rest, as they say, is history.

On Sunday June 25 at 4pm the Marin History Museum in cooperation with the Trident restaurant will be unveiling a historical marker to commemorate the event.

There will be a short unveiling ceremony on the front deck of the restaurant followed by a reception inside, featuring complimentary samples of both Lozoff and Rice’s original Tequila Sunrise and the more modern “Trident Sunrise,” along with passed appetizers. The ceremony out front is open to the public; the sunrises and appetizers are for invited guests only.
