988 Launches as New Behavioral Health Crisis Number

A new phone number has been established for behavioral health emergencies. Rather than calling 911, people should call or text 988 when someone is in danger of self-harm or suicide. “Our trained counselors can provide callers with de-escalation, safety planning, connection to resources, and engagement with mobile and emergency response teams as needed,” says Buckelew Programs chief executive officer Chris Kughn.
