A Gathering Inspired by Marin

The 2024 Sun Valley Forum: Restoring Harmony With Nature

The Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum, Idaho, will welcome the 9th Sun Valley Forum from July 15 to 18, 2024. A gathering to accelerate transformative solutions for planetary health and resilience, the forum’s past speakers include U.S. Senator Cory A. Booker, Virgin Unite CEO Jean Oelwang, author and journalist Jeff Goodell, and Polar Explorer Robert Swan (OBE).

Aimée Christensen, founder of the Sun Valley Forum, draws inspiration from her upbringing in Marin County, where her parents instilled a deep love for nature and dedication to its protection. As a child, Aimée accompanied her mother, Ann Christensen, an environmental educator, to Audubon Canyon Ranch in Bolinas, Marin Country Day School and The College of Marin where Ann’s classes like “Ants & Plants” ignited Aimée’s passion for the environment. Her father, Doug Christensen, galvanized her environmental advocacy: as a self-made builder and developer committed to justice and “doing things right,” he served as a board member of the Marin Conservation League and worked to safeguard Marin’s marshes and golden hilltops from development. Former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer credits Aimée’s parents as the first environmentalists she ever encountered, including borrowing their solar energy books in the 1970s.

Each year, Aimée convenes the Sun Valley Forum to restore planetary health and resilience in the face of unprecedented change, convening across business, government, philanthropy, finance, Indigenous Peoples, entrepreneurs and storytellers. The 2024 Forum will spotlight climate solutions that protect and restore nature. Keynote speakers will include Xiye Bastida, 21-year-old Mexican climate justice activist and Indigenous rights advocate; Dr. Sylvia Earle, President and Chairman of Mission Blue and a National Geographic Society Explorer In Residence; Jenna Johnson, President of Patagonia, Inc.; Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr, President and CEO of the Hip Hop Caucus; and Shannon Wheeler, Chairman of the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee.
