In an effort to comply with Senate Bill 1383, California’s compost law that went into effect this year, the County of Marin plans to set a target for diverting 75 percent of organic waste from landfills, saving 20 percent of edible food for human consumption by 2025. County Supervisor Dennis Rodoni says about the plan,

“Often we have challenges we can’t resolve, but getting our food waste out of our landfills isn’t one of them — promoting systems like ExtraFood and all of us putting food waste into the right bin can substantially reduce methane production.”
